Our next contributor wrote the following about her lovely vegan tattoo:

“Hi, my name is Maggie! This is my vegan tattoo. I got it at 3 Kings in Brooklyn the day before my 19th birthday. All vegan ink of course. I wanted to make a statement about my commitment to the vegan lifestyle and animal rights in general.”

Hello vegans and friends, hope you’ve had a lovely time since you’ve last visited. I have been super busy lately and have been real slack about bringing you  more cool vegan tattoos on awesome vegans.

Our next tattoo comes from Becca who says:

“The number one comment I get when people see my wrist tattoos is ‘What, in case you forget?’…   And yes, in a way they are.  They’re a reminder of the commitment I’ve made to the animals and to myself, lest I ever lose sight of why I’m vegan.”

“I got this first one in Las Vegas in November of 2007 from a vegan tattoo artist at a Vegan Freak meetup, using vegan inks.  I wanted a visible “vegan” tattoo, but I worked in corporate hell so I didn’t want it to be glaringly obvious.  My compromise – got the tattoo on my wrist, but used white ink.  I really like the effect, similar to scarification.”

“I knew almost immediately after getting the first one that I wanted another one on my right wrist, and this spring I finally got the second one.  This one was done by Annie Mess in Austin in April of this year (2009), also using vegan inks.  It’s not entirely finished healing, and will look much like the first one after a few more months.”

I have always loved these white ink tattoos for very similar reasons, they are a bit of a shock when you notice them too, an inky secret unconvered.

Anyhow, way to go Becca!  Thanks for your excellent contribution and thanks for being vegan!

Another fabulous week of being vegan and all the wonderous culinary adventures that entails.  I plan on having at least 1 fine desert trek to pattycake vegan bakery and hopefully rocking that vegan chard fritatta recipe from the new Vegan Brunch cookbook I got last week.  All around it should be a delicious week and also a great week for vegan tattoos as usual.

Our next contributor Jasterix had only this to say:

“Feel free to use and abuse!”

No problem! Muahaha.

Yeah, but aren't all yetti's herbivores?

Yeah, but aren't all Yeti's herbivores?

Jasterix wrote in this morning to add:

“I had this done by Louis Molloy (London Ink) at Middleton Tattoo Studio, Manchester. I wanted something bold that shouted out to the world that I don’t partake in its carnivorous ways and I think this does the trick. Of my many tattoo’s this was by far the most painful but definitely worth it! ”

Thanks for the update!

I have always liked the bold yet delicate intricacy of olde english script and you can’t beat the clarity and awesomeness of the message either.  Thanks ton for kicking off another delicious week of tattoos and veganism for us Jasterix, and most importantly thanks for being an herbivore!

Our next tattoo comes from friend to animals, Chuck from NY.  Chucks post was so touching that we skipped a couple of people so he could be a part of Friday double post extra-vegan-za.

vegan forearm tattoo

Chuck says:  “I got this tattoo last summer to commemorate my being vegan for 7 years.  I thought it was time :)

Jim Spiers at Model Citizen Tattoo in Ithaca, NY did this one up for me using all vegan inks.

My wife also got one which she will be uploading shortly.  We both work at The Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY.  If you haven’t visited yet stop by and say hi! ”

We look forward to seeing her vegan tattoo as well so have her send it in!

To add a little heaviness to the fun of tattoos Chuck also wrote:

“A month ago I was also diagnosed with brain cancer.  A grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme and I’m only 35 years old!  I have a bunch of fantastic friends that are raising money for me and I have a blog going explaining what my day to day is like.  Please feel free to check that out at http://www.chuck300.com. ”

I know a lot of people will check out that link and help if they can.

We hope everything works out for you, it looks like you have some wonderful friends working to help out and it seems like you deserve it after working hard to help others.  Stay tough!

Thanks a ton for your contribution and most importantly thanks for being vegan!

Hey all, quick Friday night second post for you.  Awesome vegan Allison writes:

“The tattoo shop is not vegan (nor is my artist), but he does have a great supply of vegan ink. The coloring will be done in 2-3 weeks.”

I'm glad roses are vegan too!

Allison adds that she is getting the work done by Rob Rez at American Made in Missoula, MT.

Looks like a great start to a pretty tattoo, I know i’m not the only one who looks forward to seeing it finished.

Have a great weekend everyone and, hopefully with some awesome food and good friends!  Be on the lookout for anothr sweet vegan tattoo on Monday.

Today’s excellent piece was sent by Marie from the Phillipines who writes:

“I got my first tattoo on September 20 of last year. Been thinking of getting a tattoo and I wanted it vegan-related. I settled for the word “Vegan” in Victorian script. ”

“I got the maya bird tattoo on April 6 of this year. The maya bird used to be my country’s national bird, then it got demoted (now our national bird is a monkey-eating eagle). I got the maya bird tattooed because it symbolizes my love for country, freedom, and animals. The maya bird isn’t really a symbol of simplicity, but that’s precisely why I like it — it’s not as showy as an eagle, it’s just a regular bird that everyone overlooks.”

these wing definitely are for flying

HALP! that bird is stealing my spaghetti!!!!

Beautiful bird and an amazing country.  Thanks a bunch for the lovely addition and thanks especially for being vegan!

Hey all,

You may not already know this but I absolutely adore birds.  I often spend 30 minutes a day watching the hijinks of local grackles, goldfinches, robins and turkey vultures.  So it is with happiness that I post our first vegan bird tattoo.

This submission comes from Jenny in Chicago who writes:

“I’m attaching a pic of my vegan tattoo. I came up with the idea of the tat myself. I got it last year in Detroit by a friend – Tom O. of Kustom Kulture Tattoos.”

I guess veganism is for the birds?

Jenny has been vegan 5 years now and vegetarian 8 before that.  Way to go.

Our next vegan tattoo has a very cool feeling to it, with twisting vines and lovely flowers climbing the forearm like a trellis.

be-fairied 5 year vegan Courtney write:

“I got my first tattoo as I was becoming vegetarian and the others have progressed.  Now as I am thinking of more, including a Vegan Asparagus themed one, I have talked to many parlor’s in the Chicago area and most offer to order or use vegan ink, specifically Metamorph Studios.  My original artist at Liquid Courage in Omaha also offered that.

Here’s what I have so far…”

… to not think these dueling dog tattoos are adorable.  What really sold me on posting them straight away is the fact that one of these darling muppets are vegan!

That’s the vegan one there and I must say the artist captured her snaggletooth perfectly.  Old girl looks like she’s got a good coat too.  Good job representin’, vegan dog!  Maybe work on that energy a bit more though, ok?

dog lover, vegan, and unabashed crafter Erica says:

“I wanted to submit my latest additions, fresh out of the shop!  I just got these yesterday- they’re not explicitly vegan-themed per se, but they were definitely acquired out of undying love for animals…

…Molly is a pug/boxer mix and Millie is a black lab/pit mix. Both dogs are 8 years old and are rescues.

Hope you enjoy them! The artist is Jason McAffee at Temple Tattoo in Oakland, California.”

Thanks a bunch for sending in your sweet new tattoos Erica, I know a lot of dog friends like myself will love seeing ‘em!

I love this next one for its simplicity, elegance, and coolness of the owner.

Avid blogger, donkey hugger, and vegan Sarah Downs writes

“I don’t think it counts. Because the ink wasn’t vegan, apparently. But I didn’t know that at the time. Apparently, the package ingredients were vegan (they were!) but the black stuff they use to make the black ink or whatever isn’t vegan? Made from bugs or somesuch? I don’t know. I’m still clueless after seven years of this shit.

Well at least its not on your ass!!
I think your friends are a couple of asses!

I think we all feel a bit clueless sometimes about whats in what and I don’t think companies really tend to make it clear a lot of times.  Thank goodness for those little vegan symbols they have now! We will definitely be adding some links, posts and articles on vegan inks and where to find them very soon to try and help make it a little less confusing!

Anyways, its a lovely collection of ink Sarah, the dedication to your pals at Farm Sanctuary is super sweet.
