Sorry all, I have been slacking in posting up awesome vegan tattoos for such an embarrassingly long time I am not even going to offer an explanation or excuse, but instead I am just going to post some really cool vegan tattoos this week that have been filling up the mail box for quite some time.  If you have a fresh new vegan tattoo you would like to share with you friends and fellow vegans then feel free to send them in to vegantattoos at gmail dot com.

Everyone has their first tattoo experience and Andrea from Italy chose to express his right to bare his arm with a simple and beautiful statement.  Andrea says he is planing on getting many other tattoos in the future and asked for your help with ideas for animal rights themed tattoos so feel free to leave suggestions in the comments for him!

The kind of arms you want in a food fight.

Don’t worry Andrea, we think you are totally on the right track with this lovely first tattoo!

Our next contributor Will from Pittsburgh, PA just wanted to show us a pic of his first tattoo.   Another fine and bold choice for a first tattoo!

Will has been vegan for 2 years and veg for 8.   Thanks for sending it in and most importantly thanks for being vegan!

Our last well armed vegans are a dynamic duo who got essentially matching tattoos at Scapegoat Tattoo in Portland, OR.

Well armed vegan duo

James says “Hey there, I’m the guy Brian Wilson submitted with the 1/4 sleeve Sea Shepherd tattoo.  Before that one, my girlfriend and I got “matching” tattoos saying “vegan”, also at Scapegoat.”    We think Brian does great work, check out their website and the chilling poster he designed to benefit the relief efforts on the Gulf.  Thanks a bunch for sending this awesome double feature and most importantly thanks for being vegan!

And that goes for everyone who has sent in pictures, emails, comments and suggestions; thanks a bunch and have an awesome week!

Hello vegans and friends, hope you’ve had a lovely time since you’ve last visited. I have been super busy lately and have been real slack about bringing you  more cool vegan tattoos on awesome vegans.

Our next tattoo comes from Becca who says:

“The number one comment I get when people see my wrist tattoos is ‘What, in case you forget?’…   And yes, in a way they are.  They’re a reminder of the commitment I’ve made to the animals and to myself, lest I ever lose sight of why I’m vegan.”

“I got this first one in Las Vegas in November of 2007 from a vegan tattoo artist at a Vegan Freak meetup, using vegan inks.  I wanted a visible “vegan” tattoo, but I worked in corporate hell so I didn’t want it to be glaringly obvious.  My compromise – got the tattoo on my wrist, but used white ink.  I really like the effect, similar to scarification.”

“I knew almost immediately after getting the first one that I wanted another one on my right wrist, and this spring I finally got the second one.  This one was done by Annie Mess in Austin in April of this year (2009), also using vegan inks.  It’s not entirely finished healing, and will look much like the first one after a few more months.”

I have always loved these white ink tattoos for very similar reasons, they are a bit of a shock when you notice them too, an inky secret unconvered.

Anyhow, way to go Becca!  Thanks for your excellent contribution and thanks for being vegan!

Hey all, hope you are having a fantastic week filled with vegan delights and good times.

Our next contributor comes from Amanda the protein scientist in New York.  Amanda says:

“My tattoo is on my left forearm and was done by Claire at Fun City Tattoo in NYC.  I’m a protein x-ray crystallographer, so I wanted my tattoo to reflect my love of the molecular world.  My tattoo is a peptide (protein) that spells out ENERGY in amino acids (the building blocks of proteins which have one letter abbreviations).”

Are you sure thats not martian?

Are you sure thats not martian?

Amanda continues:

“Although it isn’t clearly a vegan tattoo, energy symbolizes, to me, the cycle of life…that we come from energy and return to energy and therefore, we should respect all life as we are really all one.  Afterall, according to a fundamental principle of physics, energy is neither created nor destroyed.  ENERGY is the symbol of my life!”

I think its a neat tattoo and I know we all like energy around here, especially in the form of cupcakes, tofu, muffins and vegan lasagna.

Thanks a bunch for making me feel dumb and also for being a vegan scientist! Yay!

Another fabulous week of being vegan and all the wonderous culinary adventures that entails.  I plan on having at least 1 fine desert trek to pattycake vegan bakery and hopefully rocking that vegan chard fritatta recipe from the new Vegan Brunch cookbook I got last week.  All around it should be a delicious week and also a great week for vegan tattoos as usual.

Our next contributor Jasterix had only this to say:

“Feel free to use and abuse!”

No problem! Muahaha.

Yeah, but aren't all yetti's herbivores?

Yeah, but aren't all Yeti's herbivores?

Jasterix wrote in this morning to add:

“I had this done by Louis Molloy (London Ink) at Middleton Tattoo Studio, Manchester. I wanted something bold that shouted out to the world that I don’t partake in its carnivorous ways and I think this does the trick. Of my many tattoo’s this was by far the most painful but definitely worth it! ”

Thanks for the update!

I have always liked the bold yet delicate intricacy of olde english script and you can’t beat the clarity and awesomeness of the message either.  Thanks ton for kicking off another delicious week of tattoos and veganism for us Jasterix, and most importantly thanks for being an herbivore!

Our next contribution comes from Dustin who clearly has great taste in tattoos.

Dustin says:

“Here is a pic of my tattoo.   It’s “Herbivore” written in fruits and vegetables. The tattoo artist was Miss Kitty Love from Liquid Dragon Tattoo in Asheville, NC. I got the tattoo in 2005.”

Challenge: guess the fruit/veg in the tattoo in the comments!
